Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit
Aug 6, 2021
The Health Unit is providing another Hepatitis A vaccination clinic for those who have eaten the recalled mango product below in the last 14 days. Clinics will be held in Brockville and Smiths Falls on Tuesday morning, August 10, 2021. Call 1-800-660-5853 to make an appointment.
The Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit is recommending that anyone over the age of 6 months who has eaten the recalled product within the past 14 days receive Hepatitis A vaccination. For individuals previously immunized with two doses of Hepatitis A vaccine, no further immunization is needed. If you are unable to identify the product you consumed or the store from which it was purchased, consider getting vaccinated.
If you consumed the product more than 14 days ago, watch for symptoms of Hep A. Hepatitis A is a liver disease caused by the Hepatitis A virus. Symptoms of Hepatitis A usually appear within 14 to 28 days of exposure but may take up to 50 days to appear. You may be infected and not have any symptoms. If you have symptoms, they can include fever, stomach pain, dark urine, nausea and vomiting, tiredness, loss of appetite, jaundice (skin and whites of eyes turn yellow), and clay or ash-coloured bowel movements.
Hepatitis A is usually spread by eating or drinking food or water contaminated with the virus. It may also be spread through close contact with an infectious person. See more info on this factsheet. If you are experiencing symptoms call your primary care provider or telehealth Ontario at 1-866-797-0000.
